Pomegranates are one of the most interesting fruits both in look and taste. The name of this ancient fruit is derived from an apple and a seed. The seeds are not only delicious but are amazing for your health. Well, that is only if you can get to them. When I was little my mom would spread out a newspaper and my brother and I would each enjoy a half. Once we were finished our hands, fingers, faces and most of what we were wearing were now stained red. It would take us forever to access each and every seed. I think my mom was smart in knowing that it was the kid version of the Kong (reference dog toy). Later I have learned by cutting it up and soaking the whole fruit in water is a far easier way to extract the little gems.
As mentioned these sweet and sour little poms are full of health benefits. Starting with keeping your teeth clean. Great for plaque, bacteria, cavities and gingivitis. They are also a great source of fiber and pomegranate oil has proven great for arthritis and cholesterol. Lastly these amazing seeds are great sun protection. Eating pomegranates actually helps with UV damage!
